About the role:
At MTF Finance, this isn’t just another risk role, it’s where strategy meets action. You’ll play a part in shaping and evolving how risk can come to life across MTF Finance. This is a hands-on role for someone who’s ready to roll up their sleeves and turn ideas into impact. You’ll work closely with teams in our National Office, helping embed practical, effective approaches to managing risk at both an enterprise and operational level by providing critical second line of defence support.
We’re looking for someone who understands how businesses operate. You’re naturally curious, commercially minded, and confident asking the questions that challenge thinking and uncover better ways of doing things. You’ll be a trusted partner, someone who helps teams navigate uncertainty, make smart decisions, and identify opportunities. Based in our National Office in Dunedin or Auckland, this is a pivotal role with real influence across the business.
Just some of the things you’re responsible for:
- Lead the design, implementation and maintenance of MTF Finance’s enterprise risk management frameworks, including risk registers, controls, KRIs, operational risk and supplier risk management
- Partner with risk and control owners to ensure risks and controls are managed effectively and consistently across the business
- Facilitate and lead comprehensive risk assessments and provide practical guidance to support strong risk decisions
- Coordinate internal audit activities and deliver high-quality risk reporting for senior leadership, the Audit & Risk Committee and the Board
- Monitor emerging risks, industry trends and best practices, and translate insights into actionable business advice
- Own and maintain the Business Continuity and Emergency Response framework, including documentation, training and coordinating exercises
- Maintain and enhance MTF’s Policy Library to ensure it remains current, accessible and fit for purpose for our staff.
You’ll need to have:
- Proven experience designing, implementing and embedding risk frameworks across a complex business, working with diverse stakeholders
- Ability to quickly establish credibility as a trusted, collaborative advisor and partner with stakeholders at all levels
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate risk concepts in a practical, engaging way
- Commercially astute with strong strategic thinking skills and the ability to deliver pragmatic solutions to complex issues
- Excellent self-management and organisational skills, with a strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Experience preparing and presenting high-quality reports for senior leaders and governance forums, leveraging technology where appropriate
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a risk, legal or regulatory role (financial services experience desirable but not essential), with strong Microsoft Office skills and enthusiasm for adopting new technology
